Marriage Counseling and Couples Counseling
Relationships often face
challenges and require compromises. Juggling the demands of work,
friends and family life, while still maintaining both individuality and
couple identity, can seem overwhelming. Same-sex (lesbian or gay)
relationships can present unique challenges, but many of the issues are the
same. In counseling sessions, the focus is on maintaining and
strengthening partner commitment while negotiating the difficulties of
family structure.
Since many issues can enter
into marital or couple relationships, counseling sessions are individually
tailored to meet the needs of the couple. Issues may include:
· Creating "couple time" to
renew and strengthen relationship bonds
· Rebuilding rather than rehashing old
wounds
· Learning the principles of
"fair fighting" when disagreements occur
· Creating partnership equality within
a couple's unique circumstances
· Dealing with multicultural
challenges
· Healing from an affair and learning
to rebuild trust
· Changing verbal and non-verbal
communication
· Strengthening the multi-faceted
couple relationship
· Recognizing and accepting partner
quirks.
