Psychotherapy for Step-Families and Single Parents
Nontraditional family
structures can be complex and full of unexpected pitfalls.
Step-families, blended families, single-parent households, and complicated
child-custody arrangements can be difficult to adjust to and can exacerbate
existing stressors.
Issues which are often
addressed in counseling sessions include dealing with adjustment to new
family relationships, negotiating parental responsibility and authority,
managing relations with former spouses while co-parenting, feeling
unappreciated, or becoming overwhelmed with too many roles or
responsibilities. Psychotherapy sessions may be for a single
individual, or may include other members of the family group.
